PostHeaderIcon Have any of you expermented with ways to end any sexual thoughts for the same sex?

I mean, your mind is an extremely powerful tool to manipulate your body. It can bolster your immune defense by simply thinking positive (or slow it drastically by thinking negative and giving into despair when ill), controlling fears, and so on. Psychologists use a vareity of methods to help patients end phobias. I'm sure there's ways of changing your sexual perception as well. Take for instance someone who wishes to end a habit of drinking sodas. Once or twice a day, this person will stop what they are doing, and vividly imagine a picture in their mind. In the imagery, the person places the bottle to their lips, about to take a drink. Suddenly, hundreds of roaches swarm out of the bottle and enter the mouth, feelers and legs moving rapidly. Surpisingly, I've heard of people using this technique to quit certain habits. You simply re-train your brain to think differently about a particular subject. I have to admit that recently I've thought less and less about the same sex.

Some of these responses that suggest you can't change your sexual orientation aren't accurate. It's more politically driven than biologically. You can actually alter your sexual orientation, but it is difficult. Pedophiles, for example, are given extensive therapy to change their sexual orientation because they have to (otherwise they spend life in jail). With certain techniques it is possible for anyone (including heterosexuals, homosexuals, paraphiliacs, you name it) to change their sexual orientation.

The technique you've mentioned is interesting, I'll offer another one my abn. psychology professor mentioned. The best technique psychologists use with sexual predators is to masturbate (you can use the internet, they had to use pictures for obvious reasons) to the thing you're interested in - but stop yourself right before you orgasm. (this will, overtime, disassociate the images with sexual impulse)

Then, quickly, switch to the material you'd like to start being interested in and masturbate to orgasm. Obviously, it may take a long time to do the first several times. To help yourself out, just for the first few times, let yourself think of the predisposed material (while looking at the new material) to get back to the orgasm stage, but then focus solely on the target material during the orgasm. (the target image combined with the orgasm gets planted into your subconscious and after a while you begin to relate that target image to your sexual desires)

Do this over the course of months - sometimes it'll require a year. You'll notice you'll be able to orgasm a lot more thoroughly to the target material and less likely to the material you used to enjoy. When you become less and less interested in the predisposed material then simply stop maturbating to it all together and focus only on the new material.

Sometimes the technique is done without the predisposed material - merely the target material. The problem with that is you don't disassociate your sex drive with the predisposed material and, therefore, can easily revert back to the old sexual desire when you see the material again. It's best to use the predisposed material (as mentioned above) along with the new material.

PostHeaderIcon Anyone a football fan with OCD? If so how does it show itself during the game?

Every time a sit down for a game, everything has to be just right. I have to have the remote on the arm of the chair with "last station" set to another game to ensure I can easily flip back and forth. I need to have a soda with ice and beer chilling for the second quarter. Above all I must have my phone, to field any possible calls, on the end table next to me.

What about you?

lol. wow, welcome to my living room. Except that beer is cracked open usually around 1030 if they (COWBOYS) play at noon and by about 1 if at 315. When they play late I tend to lay in bed or around until the first kickoff of the day! My jersey is pre-selected the night before, based on whom I think needs to have a bigger game (WARE) for D and (WITTEN) for the O. It does not get put on until the teams have actually taken the field. If i have not gone any where, my car flags hang off the end of each enertainment tower nxt to the tv, I have a Cowboys troll sitting on top of the tv, he gets moved back and forth based on what is going on in the game. I save one spot on the floor near the tv, in case the game gets crazy (BUFFALO, DETROIT) so i can roll around on the field in desperate agony as the clock ticks and we get closer and closer, and of course for those nasty losses (PHILLY, and WASHINGTON) so i can kick and scream like a 2 yr old does when you take their binky away! So, yeah I get to be a rather pecuilar person on game days! Oh, I also have a special pair of game day socks!

PostHeaderIcon Do you think either Sousuke or Kaname die at the end of Full metal panic?

Are you asking if they died in the anime, or are you asking if you think they should die? If your asking if they died in the anime, they did not. Sagara finally found out what he wanted to do other than fighting. Chidori just wants to be with Sagara, but she didn’t die she went to china to look for him and brought him back. BUT if your asking if they should die, I personally think they shouldn’t too cute of a couple. xDD War crazy man and a violent chick xDD.
Hope I Helped!

PostHeaderIcon for people who have experienced depression/social anxiety issues…does it end?

i'm just wondering if it ends. i currently experience continual episodes of depression and i'm in college. it interferes in life but nobody really notices. and i have interesting social anxiety issues. sometimes I'm scared as hell to be social (ie talk to ppl), other times i get the balls to talk to them. but I'm still pretty socially awkward, and have few close friends. will i ever be social/out of depression? its been like this for 2 yrs or more maybe…i can't really remember when it started.

and therapy/doctor are not possible.

I suffered from social anxiety & depression for a few years, and I'm not sure how or when it ended, but I know it started after my first son was born. I used to freak out if he slept more than a few hours during the day. I didn't have a phone to call the pediatrician, so I used to put him in his carrier and walk two blocks to a pay phone. I'd call sometimes three times a week. I was living in a new neighborhood, suddenly raising a delicate newborn baby…it was a whole lotta scary all at once, and my baby's father was not supportive at all.
I couldn't talk to anyone in my family. It seemed like every conversation ended awkwardly. Then I would obsess about that in my head, and fear the next conversation with that person.
I remember specifically this one incident at the grocery store, where I had the cart practically overflowing with food, and right before I got to the checkout, I parked the cart by an aisle, and just left the store, simply afraid of the small talk I would inevitably have to have with the cashier.
I'm so glad that period of my life is over. I still think back of moments of paralyzing fear, it was so real. I had anxiety attacks on a regular basis, and the one person that I could rely on to help me through all of this was emotionally abusive and selfish.
When I left him, I think that's when I started getting back to normalcy. I know this will end for you eventually. It's a disorder alot of people suffer from.

PostHeaderIcon anxiety symptom?

I have generalized anxiety disorder, been seen by a dr, I had a normal ekg about 6 months ago, but I get these really annoying pains in my lower left rib cage pretty much every day whether or not I'm having a panic attack or not, they are a quick stabbing pain, not unbearable just irritating, does anyone else get these and do you have any cures to prevent them, I use a lot of Icy Hot, which helps, but I hate the smell?

I also have generalized anxiety and get sharp pains that seem to come from the area just behind the bottom of my rib cage on either side. i also get them in my upper chest and stomach. i have heard of the chest and stomach pain as just a symptom of the anxiety but have heard nothing of the rib pain though i still write them off as anxiety. the funny thing about the pains is i never usually get them when I'm physically busy, such as at work or when exercising, but get them only when I'm physically inactive such as at school or watching TV. my suggestion is when you start feeling those pains do some light exercising (or heavy if you prefer) and see if that helps at all. i hope i was of assistance.

PostHeaderIcon Using a Health Savings Account to Pay for Alternative Medicine

Americans spend over $30 billion each year on complementary and alternative therapies, mostly out of their own pocket. That is because few health insurance plans cover expenses like homeopathy, acupuncture, or Chinese medicine. But if you own a Health Savings Account, these expenses are 100% tax deductible.

Health Savings Accounts allow you to set up a tax-deductible account to pay for medical expenses that are not covered by your health insurance. These include expenses to cover your deductible, and other medical expenses like dental and eyeglasses. But many don’t realize that HSA funds can be used to pay for virtually any type of medical service, as long as it pertains to the treatment or prevention of a specific health condition.

Because money withdrawn from a health savings account to pay medical expenses is tax-free, anyone who has an HSA can funnel all alternative medical expenses through their HSA and get a tax write-off. This could include biofeedback, naturopathy, Ayurvedic medicine, aromatherapy, magnetic healing, reflexology, and the list goes on.

People who use complementary therapies are often very health conscious, and go to traditional physicians less often. So it does not make sense for them to be paying a high premium for a traditional health insurance plan with a co-pay, particularly when their medical treatments are not covered anyway. Instead, many are choosing a low cost high-deductible HSA plan.

Alternative Therapies Becoming Mainstream

Many hospitals are now offering complementary treatments. The website for the Memorial Sloan-Keating Cancer Center states that complementary therapies are used to “help alleviate stress, reduce pain and anxiety, manage symptoms, and promote a feeling of well-being.”

Some group health insurance plans are beginning to cover more complementary expenses, but there is still very little coverage for these expenses in individual or family plans. Those that cover chiropractic limit coverage to 12 - 20 visits per year, and a few will cover a limited amount of acupuncture. But very few if any cover hypnotherapy, Reiki, iridology, or faith healers.

Why Complementary Medicine

The conventional medicine practiced by most MDs is called allopathic medicine. The philosophy of this system is to treat disease and injury using counteractive methods. For instance, if you have a fever you may take aspirin to make it go down, if your cholesterol is elevated you may take a statin to reduce it, if you have heartburn you may take an antacid. The thinking is mostly focused on removing the symptoms of disease, and the primary treatment modalities are surgery and prescription drugs.

But there are other ways to look at things. Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief in the body’s own healing powers, which can be strengthened through the use of certain foods, vitamins, herbs, or other “natural” treatments. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is based on ancient Chinese theories about the balance of yin and yang. Ayurvedic medicine is based on principles of movement, metabolism, and structure.

Part of the growing use of complementary therapies is a reaction to the costs, side effects, and philosophy of conventional allopathic medicine. Physicians get much of their continuing education from the pharmaceutical industry, and they work in an environment where the insurers and the patients are both looking for a quick fix. The result is that the average 60 year old is now taking 5 regular medications, yet there is little expectation that those drugs will ever cure the health problems for which they’re being used. Many consumers see this, and instead are using other methods to try to get to the root of their illness.

What is Considered a “Qualified HSA Expense”

Qualified medical expenses have been partially defined in IRS Publication 502, and through various federal court rulings. There is no definitive list, but there are really very few restrictions as long as the procedure is for the treatment or prevention of a specific health condition. For instance, you could not use your HSA funds to pay for a relaxing massage for your own personal pleasure. But if your doctor recommends you get a massage for specific medical reasons, this is considered a qualified expense. Yoga would not normally be considered a qualified medical expense, but it would be if it was recommended as a physical therapy following some sort of accident.

Some may question why the government would give a tax deduction for someone to use some crazy energy vibration machine to cure their cancer. But this is as it should be. No one but you should be able to decide what type of treatment you will use for your own illnesses. By empowering individuals to manage their health as they see fit, HSAs encourage personal responsibility and help loosen the monopoly on healthcare that conventional medicine has had for the past few decades.

PostHeaderIcon How to Get Rid of Panic and Anxiety Through Self-help

In our lives, we all want peace and happiness. We hope for a happy and pleasant environment around us all the time. However, to have all this we must be living in an ultimate world. However, we all know that our world is not ideal and tensions, panicky situations and anxieties arise every now and then.

However, we should not be afraid of them and whenever these situations arise we must be armed to deal with them in the most efficient manner possible. For this, we must first be able to examine our emotions and accept them as they are. Understanding the emotions can help you to learn to control the emotions without allowing the devastating feelings and emotions take control. As the last step, we must try to transform all such negative emotions like anxiety and panic into encouraging ones.
Anxiety has often been connected with worry and both are understood as the same emotion. Nevertheless, this is not true because although both are forms of fear but anxiety is related more to time and resources constraints whereas worry is a result of an anxiety that something we plan will not work out well.

Anxiety occurs because sometimes we need to complete a tight-string project and we fall in a rush. The project is of greatest importance and because of shortage of time or any other contributing factor you will not be able to terminate it to perfection or on time.

Often worry also results from the same reasons. Nevertheless, the major difference here that we must recognize is that it may not just be a result of lack of resources but may be also due to some problem with your child or spouse or any other personal issue. Worries are a result of our personal attachments with certain beings or things.

Since childhood, all these feelings are absorbed by our mind. We see the way people react to certain situations and emulate them. While some people behave in appositive manner to situations other don’t. Whichever affects us more determines how we behave to those situations.

To throw away all these anxieties and worries one must follow a proper system and diet. In helping you to reduce anxiety and panic situations, the below mentioned points will go a long way.

1.Regular exercises like an early morning walk, jog, or aerobics.
2.Try yoga. It helps in getting better your blood flow and reduces hyperventilation.
3.Whenever a panic situation arises, try to concentrate with deep breathing.
4.Try meditation as a solution searching method.
5.Follow a healthy low fat and high vitamin diet.

Following the aforementioned routine and steps will help you in freeing yourself from negative thoughts and emotions and creating a positive atmosphere around you. Try these positive countermeasures to anxiety whenever it strikes.

1.We must accept that whatever is happening to us has no purpose to harm us. We must give whatever we do, our best shot but it is useless to worry about the results. Once you have given it, your best shot there is no reason why you should fail, so why panic.
2.We must have self-belief in ourselves. We must tell ourselves that nothing is impossible unto us and that we can face all the problems of life without giving up on them.
3.We should never think low about ourselves. Like everyone else, we are all humans and have equal rights to life. We should never worry about what others think about us because at the end of the day you are your best judge.
4.You must be reminiscent yourself at all times that life is meant for being lived every moment and not for worrying every moment what the next will bring about.

PostHeaderIcon A Fairly New Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder

The occurrences on Social Anxiety Disorder have not been recent or new in the era of anxiety disorders despite the heightened attention from the medical community and media in recent years. Research and developments into Social Anxiety have witnessed great improvements in medications used for treating Social Anxiety. These Social Anxiety specific medications are widely available in the marketplace nowadays even though there are a great deal of other general anti-anxiety medications that produce the same effects as those specific-purpose medications.

Social Anxiety Disorder or in other word, social phobia can be described as a marked and persistent fear that arises due to triggering embarrassment or anxiety that a social event or situation ensues. An individual with social anxiety disorder typically anticipate poor performance or judgment by people that would result in his or her feeling of embarrassment or anxiety. In public places regardless of interviews, meetings, speech, work or just any other social activities, the person will inevitably suspect or feel himself or herself being watched or evaluated by other people in one way or another. When these anticipatory actions and its consequent symptoms become so severe that they interferes with the persons day-to-day ordinary routines and social activities, he or she would simply avoid all kinds of social gatherings to prevent himself or herself in a humiliating position.

With plenty of variety of medications available to treat social anxiety disorder, it is imperative that your complaints represent those of the disorder by critically evaluating the symptoms described below. It is useful to gain an understanding of the difference between anxiety that is normal and facilitative; and anxiety that is debilitative and counterproductive before you jump start on any treatment course.

The emotional apprehension of people suffering from social anxiety disorder is very distorting and significant to their lives in that it affects their ability to concentrate on daily routines or even stirs up a fear of madness or losing their minds, insomnia and excessive anxiety. It follows that these people will also experience physical symptoms that include shortness of breath, stomach ache, muscle twitches, excessive sweating and fast heartbeat. Due to the heightened feeling of fear and embarrassment that elicit anxiety and distress at the extreme end of the continuum, these symptoms greatly indicate that social anxiety disorder has resulted.

Should you discover your social anxiety symptoms at an initial phase of the disorder, medication treatments have demonstrated robust and dramatic improvement to relieving you of your symptoms. Among other possible alternative treatments for social anxiety disorder, psychological therapies have also proven to be helpful for many patients with the similar problems. Depending on the magnitude and severity of the condition, social anxiety responds different to different therapies and therefore, do not hesitate to consult with your doctor in discovering the right alternatives for your complaints. You deserve to enjoy social events and situations in a relaxed and stress-free experience. Help yourself by seeking attention and care to benefit from these treatments now!

PostHeaderIcon I am afraid of the end of the world, is that normal?

Today in science class we were talking about the LCH and the black hole that it could form. Suddenly I got really scared, felt like I was going to throw up, my mouth went dry, I started shaking, and got really cold. I went online and I had symptoms of a phobia of the end of the world.
I’m really afraid of the end of the world, is this normal? Can someone reassure me that the world won’t end tomorrow?

THANKS!

It is quite common for people to fear the end of the world.

Some people fear certain dates, many others have studied prophecies and predicted the end of the world time and time again, and they’ve been wrong time and time again.

It sounds like you had a little bit of an anxiety attack.

Even if the LHC does produce a micro black hole, it would be unable to destroy the earth. We are routinely hit by particles from space that have far more energy than the LHC can produce.

Live your life well, eventually we will all die, try to come to terms with that. You may even be able to find comfort in it.

PostHeaderIcon i thought i had ocd, but it seems more like depression now?

when people get depressed, it's because of some kind of loss or big event that depresses them, but im not depressed about that
im depressed about the compulsions from ocd
like i do normal or have intrusive thoughts and i become guilty and i have to do something to make it up and also the frustration from intrusive thoughts make me go further, but then again i get really depressed for that even though i might have done it, the probability makes me guilty
is this still depression because when i feel like this, i find that there's no way out and im always living at the dead end
but sometimes when i go over why i shouldn't be guilty, i become very excited and i have a free life again, im very confident and i feel that i can succeed in everything that i do
i've been feeling really bad for the last 3 or 4 years, but the

only reason i haven't committed suicide, talked to someone or gone to a psychologist is because i can live with it since my mood changes and im able to find my equilibrium and have a normal life like everyone else
when everyone stays close to the equilibrium, i jump back and forth to the extreme sides
im guessing that im depressed now because of so many stress and suffering from my ocd and anxiety

You should definitely see a professional about this. There are treatments that can help you deal with your problems. When there is one mental disorder present you are often susceptible to certain others along with or as a result of your original problem. Along with your suspicions of OCD and depression there's the possibility of bi-polar disorder and though you have been able to deal with things thus far it is beginning to interfere with your life, and seeing a doctor could help you find stability, and cheer you up some. A formal diagnosis is always best. Good luck to you!
