PostHeaderIcon could I possibly end up with a tick infestation?

My cousin and her family visited recently, and they have a HORRIBLE tick infestation. A few minutes ago, I found one on me, probably traveled from their home. Is it possible for my house to end up with a horrible tick infestation? If so, is there a way for me to prevent this? I have a phobia of ticks, so im really freaking out. Thanks.

If you don’t like ticks, never let a dog get near you. Tick bites can give you Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.

PostHeaderIcon What did Martin Van Buren do in the panic of 1837 to end it?

In 1837 there was an economic melt down, What i want to know is how did this panic come to an end. What were the events that led to the ending of the Panic? Please help.

His political opponants blamed Buren heavily for the crises. His refusal to involve the government in the economy was said by some to have contributed to the damages and duration of the Panic. Jacksonian Democrats blamed the banks’ irresponsibility, both in funding rampant speculation and by introducing paper money inflation. This was caused by banks issuing excessive paper money (unbacked by bullion reserves), leading to inflation.

Van Buren advocated did indeed act: He advocated lower tariffs and free trade, and by doing so maintained support of the South for the Democratic party. He succeeded in setting up a system of bonds for the national debt.

PostHeaderIcon What is the best treatment for panic attacks?

I’ve suffered from panic attacks since I was very little, and my first major panic attack was when I was in the middle of a very busy restaurant. Another one was on a crowded train on my way to work and my heart-rate jumped like crazy.

If anyone out there experience those similar reactions.. What are the best treatments for ending these panic attacks? THANKS!

Having my own experience, speaking with others, and reading literature, I learned that "panic" is a defense mechanism that protects us from over-whelming anxiety. The problem therefore, is not the "panic", it’s the underlying anxiety.

I would suggest that you look into the "release-valve treatment," as it helped me a great deal with my anxiety. Also, do your reading and studying to give you a better understanding of the main causes and treatments of panic attacks.

PostHeaderIcon How should I end my novel?

Okay, so my novel centers around a teenage pregnancy basically. And throughout the novel main characters get raped, die and commit suicide (or at least try to) so it’s a very dramatic novel. It’s also a tear jerker. But anyway, I’m on the second to last chapter and the boyfriend leaves the girl. I was planning in the next chapter to have him come back and explain his reasons for leaving and then end it happily, but I was also thinking of making it all a dream or a psychic vision. So I’m not sure what to do. I don’t really like to give my novels happy endings, and I don’t want it to feel rushed. Maybe he was day dreaming? I think that would be wrong, though. Kind of a cheap way out of a good ending. So how should I end my novel?
- OCD.
Yeah, but it wouldn’t really make sense for his character. He wouldn’t do that, and plus he’s broke so he can’t.

MishMash has a very good answer.
I, too, have written novels that revolve around teenage pregnancy and none of my stories have "happy endings" I, personally, feel that the "happy ending" thing is really cliché, so I never use it.
But that’s just me.
My advice? Write whatever feels right, or whatever seems like it would make the most interesting ending for you, personally.
You’re the writer, and most of the time… the writer knows best. :)
Congrats on (almost) finishing your novel. :D

PostHeaderIcon I cannot tread water in the deep end, i panic alot and kick too much, is there a solution?

I cannot tread water in the deep end, i panic alot and kick too much, is there a solution?

Where can i get instructions to tread properly?

Heres a sugestion, try treading water in shallower water first.

You can tread water in water that is only up to your chest level.
Because you will be using your legs and arms.

That way, if you get paniky, you can just stand up.

Once you learn that you CAN sucessfully tread water, then slowly move into deeper water and try again.

PostHeaderIcon Anxiety and how to deal with it. I’ve been crawling in my skin for over 2 years now. Any creative ideas?

I’ve tried exercise, guided meditation, eliminating caffeine and simple sugars, anti-depressants prescribed by a psychiatrist to no avail.
Any fresh new ideas out there? Holistic meds, diet supplements, etc?
I didn’t like the meds at all so we discontinued their use about 6 months ago.
Anxiety and nervousness are one end of my issue, severe sadness and crying are at the other end.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Try to start overcoming your fears. This is very important, as it allows you to retrain your mind into letting you again believe that there isn’t a danger in going to the mall, or driving a car. You have told your mind that these things are putting your body in danger, and your body is reacting to the threat. But really, there is not a threat at the time, your mind is tricking your body. If, for instance, there was a real threat then your body would respond as necessary. This is what our bodies are designed to do.

One of the most effective methods used is deep breathing. The following exercise will physically, and mentally calm you.
Start out by breathing through your nose for a slow 3 count
Then hold your breath for a slow 3 count
And then exhale for a slow 3 count. You can do this as long as you want. It really helps.

Good luck.

Do you feel a Panic or Anxiety attack can happen at any time?
People in this situation often feel that are lucky
to make it through the day without that switch been
flicked but in the back of their mind they fear that it
could happen at any moment day or night.
They remain on high alert anticipating it.
Anticipating the big one!
In fact most people who experience panic attacks
fear it in this manner. It is natural for people to think this
way as often the panic attacks come forcefully out
of the blue.
The truth of the situation is however
different. A panic attack does not lurk in the background
waiting to pounce, it can feel that way in your mind
if you are anxious but that is not how it really works.
Panic attacks are actually something we decide to
initiate when we feel out of control.
The thought that triggers almost all panic attacks is :
"This is too much , I cannot handle this,"
Then the adrenaline starts to really pump.
"Ah I was right look my body is going into a fit…
"I am terrified by what is about to
happen…HELP,- PANIC… !"
The severity of the panic attack is directly
related to how you are feeling at that time.
If you are exhausted physically, mentally or emotionally
then you are more vulnerable to feeling anxious.
After the panic attack has run its course, it is
followed by a prolonged period of general anxiety.
During this time the person fears that the panic
switch might go off again at any moment sending
them into another tailspin of high anxiety.

PostHeaderIcon Would you panic if you found out the world was going to end in 9 months?

Our world was going to crash into another planet, and completely destroy us.

PostHeaderIcon Do people with anxiety disorders generally end up suffering with ear problems?

7.5 months ago I had really bad strep throat for the firs time ever. 3 weeks later I had a panic attack and since then suffer from constant nervousness (daily). In the past couple of months, my hearing has become sensitive, my left ear goes deaf and rings occasionally. Sometimes I get a sharp pain in my ears and my right ear is starting to become affected with similar symptoms.

Which is more possible? That an anxiety disorder is causing all of this? Or a medical condition (thyroid or inner ear problem) is causing my weird ear problems and nervousness? I’ve never really heard of people with anxiety disorders to be having ear problems too. I haven’t been diagnosed with anything.

chances are you have some sort of serious infection (inner or middle ear) and thats whats been keeping you on edge. Ear infections can cause even the nicest of people to be off beat. You should see your doctor.

PostHeaderIcon just wrote down my list of fears and ended up with a list of 3 phobias and 36 fears :/ is that too many?

i would have thought people were scared of lots of things, so i thought it was pretty much normal.

what do you think? :O share your thoughts lol.
theres alot to fear! lol.
i just wrote the list on a piece of paper. i know what my phobias are and generally what i fear then i had a think about other stuff i find scary or threatning and well thats how i figured out the rest :/ there was nothing special to it.

That’s pretty normal.. well I hope it is because I have a lot of fears too.

If you don’t have any fear of anything, I think you don’t really see the world as it is.
There are lots of things to be afraid of, and you shouldn’t back away from them and
be too scared to see it.
