Before trying the stronger drugs like Xanax and Zoloft, I suggest you try taking this medicine called Absolute Calm. Iv'e been taking it lately to help with my stress and it has been a big help to me. It's all natural and doesn't require a prescription so it would be easy for you to try and you might like it enough that you don't need to look for another medicine. here's a link:

I suffer from severe anxiety and OCD and I've found that using one medication to treat both of them is not the best option for me. My doctor had me on Zoloft for a while, and we kept upping the dose until it finally hit 200 mg. every day and it still wasn't working on either problem. Now my doctor put me on Ativan for anxiety and Lexapro and Abilify for OCD and depression, and it's made a huge difference. By having one medication for each problem, instead of trying to multi-task, I've found that each problem gets the full effect of the medication and it works wonders. If you suffer from extreme anxiety, I recommend something like Ativan but keep in mind that it makes you extremely drowsy. If you tend to oversleep anyways (like I do), then I would recommend getting Ativan to take on the weekends (the effects last for a few days for me so I don't need it every day) and the using something that isn't as strong for the week. I take Tranxene for the weekdays when I'm really freaking out. Keep in mind that I AM NOT A DOCTOR but I have been in therapy and on medication since I was 10 years old (I'm 24 now) so I can tell you from a patient's perspective what has worked for me. Good luck in your treatment!!!
References :
I've been in therapy and on medications for 14 years and I've pretty much been on everything under the sun.

I have been on zoloft for over 3 years and it has made a huge difference in my life! I suffered with panic attacks for several months before agreeing to try zoloft. I tried natural remedies, diets, meditation, self help tapes, exercise, etc.... Nothing brought enough relief. I know of people on paxil, and others on zoloft. All seem to be satisfied. If your doctor prescribes one of these drugs (or others), keep in mind they take about a week to offer any relief. Some people have to try more than one to find the one best suited for them. Good luck to you.
References :
Have you ever taken medication to deal with severe anxiety or OCD?
If so, which medication was it and did it work well for you? Did it also help in reducing depression if you were suffering from that as well? I've heard alot of stories of medications like Paxil and Zoloft making a huge difference and was wondering if the stories were true. Thanks in advance

I had great luck with Effexor XR 150mg. It's used for GAD and also depression. Minimal side effects, and it didn't make me feel out of it. I just felt more like myself. I took it for about a year after I went through a divorce and it helped me tremendously.
References :
Don't out-guess the doctor, but you can help him/her by working together. First, if you're not being treated by a pscyhiatrist [especially an Orthomolecular Psych], that's what you need (an Internal Medicine Doctor is not equipped to do you the best job.

In your case, this means talking with the doc about how you are not reacting well to your medications.

You are correct that meditation can help you relax, bu it will not cure you. Beware of cults; ask your local librarian to refer you to the right books. Read about meditation & try what you like. If that works, OK! (If not, ask a health-store about someone who does meditation).

Jut do it! Good luck!:)
References :
What is the best mediation for generalized anxiety disorder?
I have been taking zoloft and klonopin for anxiety for a while and I think it is no longer helping enough. I am thinking of switching to a different ssri and ativan (instead of klonopin). Any suggestions on what the best med is for generalized anxiety disorder. Thanks!
