PostHeaderIcon How do you end an anxiety attack fast?

I need to know what steps to take to get out of an attack when i’m having one.
I am already on Ativan 1mg but I seem to still be getting them really bad.

Deep breathing. Take a hot shower or a nap. If they are very bad, you can go to a doctor and have tham prescribe some medication. There are things you can take for actue attacks (like valium, ativan, or xanax)… or even a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers are generally used to control blood pressure, but also change the way that your body deals with stress. It lowers your heart rate and prevents anxiety attacks, insteaad of treating them when they occur. A natural (herbal) supplement you can take for anxiety attacks is passion flower extract (you can buy this at your local health food store in pill or liquid form). Good Luck!

breathe in a paper bag helps from passing out but all you can do is try to ride it out or just try to clear your mind. I know they are rough I have had them on and off for 9 years. You have to find out whats the underlying cause that triggers them to know how to deal with them. Mine is death..of myself and my family and thinking of the afterlife….so when I start thinking about it I have to catch myself and really focus on something else it is hard to learn and deal with it but just try your best.

Taking a walk and exercising deep-breathing. I’ll do purse-lip breathing which is good for shortness of breath.

First off, I get them all the time so I know what you are experiencing. Because I’ve had them throughout my adult life I know what to expect and what they are and that helps in handling them when I’m in the middle of one. So just know that when you are having one that it has a beginning a middle and an end. Don’t try and "fight" it off; I just lay down and take some deep breaths (or wherever you are just close your eyes and breath deeply and slowly). Instead of tensing up and letting the physical sensations overwhelm you try observing them as they happen, like this, "My heart is beating faster than normal", or, "I have a strange sensation in my head". Also tell yourself that it will pass and it will pass faster if you are focusing and breathing.
You could take meds for it in the short term. But anxiety is not one of those things "cured" by medication alone! You have to learn how to deal with yours and if you can talk yourself though an attack it will do you much more good in controlling them in the future.
    Take care!

I used to get these pretty regular and they aren’t pleasant, my doc told me to relax my forehead, jaw, shoulders, hands, breathe in through my nose slow, hold for 5-6 seconds, breath out through my mouth slow, do approx 10-15 times, and it works. Bach rescue remedy is also very good, just a few drops on or under your tongue. .
