Xbox Live Gamertag - Irish Shaman
Feel free to add me, as I’ll be uploading more gaming videos over time.

The song in question is “Panic Attack” by the band Dream Theatre.

Expert Guitar - 98% - Left side of screen -
Expert Bass - 99% - Right side of screen -

It is being played both times by me. It took two seperate runs to get both the guitar and bass footage, and I misplaced my index finger at the start of the guitar solo… normally I get 94-95% on the solo. I would have re-started but then that would have been a waste of about five and a half minutes and would have possibly left me worse off.
This is one of my better bass runs on the song though, I totally have to admit to that.

Both where played with my RB1 Strat controller. I bought the controller with the whole “Band in the Box” which I got… last May?
I believe, along with my Xbox 360. So it has lasted me that long and is still in PERFECT working condition.
Amazing durability for a plastic guitar.

So yea, first time attempting a double chart effect like this.

Was a total to sync up correctly, but at least it came out clean in the end. I know how to do it now, do expect the majority of my future Rock Band videos to be like this.

    Heh heh, that’s one …
Heh heh, that’s one of the reasons I ditched my bass teacher after about 5-6 weeks. Moved wayyy to slow.

I’ve actually progressed onto metal style playing now on bass since I left him over six months ago. I just teach and learn by watching instructional videos on certain techniques that I download, as well as just jamming.

    yeah man that’s so …
yeah man that’s so true especially with the drums because even though it’s slightly out of time the basic drum riffs are still there and you learn alot of co-ordination.

i think it’s great becausen it also encorages young musicians by saying “learn to play 40 tracks with your right hand in a day.” rather than “now this is a pick and this is your e string. now i’m gonna teach you how to play mary had a liitle lamb, on the e string.”

    Quick question ( …
Quick question (damn passing out…), did you ever hear of a group called “Avenged Sevenfold” ?

I have 3 of their tracks and was thinking of doing a guitar/bass chart of two of them. The tracks where called -

“Critical Acclaim” and “Afterlife”. Extremely heavy and melodic at the same time.

    The only thing that …
The only thing that es me off is when people say “it doesn’t help with actual instruments at all”…

Oh yea, because after a year of playing and moving from Easy-Expert + drums on the games my timing and playing by ear hasn’t improved one bit…

Like ! It’s much easier to learn if you say play the game for a bit, then play an instrument, then play again, then finally just mess about and practise the in-game songs by ear while listening to the track.

Its how I learned -White Wedding

  • 1rishShaman says:

    True, it only …
True, it only really helps finger speed, but not switching between strings.

I play four finger style on bass and never use a pick, even though most of the stuff I play is Rock/Metal. Picks and bass strings do not mix well unless you practise with them right from the get-go.

However, there is one song called “Painkiller” by Judas Priest. I managed to learn a good deal of the riffs on bass within a few hours of practise.

I only use it really to test the bass chart water before attempting.

The sound was fine. I’m sure it will improve as you work on it more.

Hmmm, have to put those fingers to the test…. hehe.

    yeah i understand …
yeah i understand how it helps finguiring patterns.
like the riff at the start of this song is 16’s but instead of doing steady 4’s there is 4 compound beats (sets’o'3 beats) and then 2 simple beats (sets’o'2 beats). and that’s hard to figure out from just tab.

my mate jamie (guitarist) spent way too much time on GH3 and pretty much lost the ability to sweep but could do mad chromatic runs on 1 string lol.

  • 1rishShaman says:

    Thanks =)

    I wish …
    Thanks =)

I wish I could have gotten the sound a little better organised, that’s my only fault with it in my opinion.

Still, at the minute I’m quite ed up on Diazepam and Temazepam (twice as strong).
Some picked this song a few minutes ago when I was off my tits and made me do guitar…

Still, being completely smashed and 1 second behind reality, I still managed a 96% rating!

Made a joke that I had the fastest fingers between my friends group… I got some wierd looks.

  • 1rishShaman says:

    Oh yea, well for …
Oh yea, well for drumming on Rock Band it’s much different than the lead, bass guitar and vocals. Drumming is the hardest part of… well most bands that I know of. I have serious respect for drummers.

I don’t really “practise” this to help me play bass, however it does help with certain bass songs if you want to start playing fingering… yea that sounded right.

I only really play songs at a high 4*-devil* ratings on expert, just becuse it improves your finger/strum reaction times.

  • tehpageofcups says:

    ah, this was …
ah, this was intoxicating :) I really enjoyed it and I envy the skill of your fingers….. while playing stringed instruments ;) LOL

looking forward to more hardcore music!

  • superchang847 says:

    lol my screen is …
lol my screen is too slow to pick up most of this some of the runs are just a blur.

it’s terrible practice for actual musicians as it uses something called compensation delay and you might not notice but on beginner you have to play like milliseconds too slow and expert too fast.

i first noticed it on rock band i’m a grade 6 (almost 7) drummer and hitting it on the right time is very noticable but i can play hard mode pretty well as it’s on beat.

I can’t move my fingers that fast. You’re a ing freak!

    Well done.

  • 1rishShaman says:

    Heh, and I strum …
Heh, and I strum with it as much as possible. I don’t like using hammer on/off’s at all.

  • TheAtheistSwede says:

    Holy e.

    Well …
    Holy e.

Well done. I would probably break my fingers if I tried this lol. I prefer my Star Oceans and Tales of Vesperias. =P
